A Birthday Worth Celebrating

Recently my Favorite Mother in Law had a monumental birthday.  She was visiting with us at the time, so as a gift to her I created a five-course meal with some of her favorites.  The courses were paired with appropriate wines, of course (reviews of which were previously posted).  Here is the menu with some photos.


Course One

Trio of Appetizers

Steamed Shrimp in a Citrus Vinagrette

Philo Cup with Shrimp, Smoked Salmon & Mushroom

Smoked Salmon Crème in Cucumber Cup

Course Two

Island of Spinach Soup in a Sea of Potato-Leek Soup

Wine:  2006 Monmousseau Vouvray






Course Three

Romaine Salad with Blood Orange and Blueberries with Aged Balsamic Vinagrette

Wine:  Continued with Vouvray






Course Four

Seared Wild Salmon “Sushi”

Seared Wild Salmon served on Sushi Rice with Sweet Potato Wedges

Wine:  2000 Domaine du Colombier Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Gaby






Course Five

Classic Crème Brulee

Wine:  2001 Mount Horrocks Riesling Cordon Cut

It was a nice way to celebrate Joyce’s birthday.  And hers is a life deserving of great celebrations!  Happy Birthday, FMIL!
