Uncorked: 2008.04.06 – Brigid & Morgan Richardson visit to NE Ohio

Nicely bottle aged. Pretty ruby jewel color with no bronzing. Soft nose with dark berries, soft smokiness and toasted oak. In the mouth it was very smooth and richly balanced. Ripe cherry, plum, and blackberry. Some earthiness, tobacco, and smoky oak flavors. The fruit was integrated with the other flavors for good balance. The finish was a bit weak with velvety tannins.  This one benefited from nearly 9 years laying in the bottle.  A bit on the light side, but this is what a California Cab should taste like.

Nice dessert wine experience. Beautiful bright gold color, almost orange. In the nose there is lots of honey, melon, citrus, and slight minerality. The flavors wash over the mouth with luscious peach, sweet pear, and deep honey flavors. Nice acidic finish to balance the sweetness.

Light hay color that sparkled in the early spring sunlight. This is a pretty mild and approachable Vouvray in every way — mildly sweet, mildly acidic. Very easy to drink. Has characteristic full mouth-feel with flavors of pear, citrus, and sweet apple.  Nice wine for sweeter wine lovers to enjoy without excluding the dry white consumers.  Excellent quality-to-price ratio.

An alternative to traditional champagne, this sparkling wine has a pleasant, fresh sweetness that will appeal to many.

Simple nose with honeysuckle, apple, and baked pear, each of which continued in the mouth.  Nice small bubbles.  The mouth-feel is luscious for a wine of this price.  The fruit is balanced with plenty of minerality and toast on the finish.  Very nice on its own, and a “party for your mouth” with the addition of a strawberry slice!  This wine is an excellent value and quite accessible for less experienced wine drinkers.

Decanted for 45 minutes.  While Jeff cooked the 5-course meal, this was the wine Jeff & Kerri drank while Joyce enjoyed her Zeller Schwarze Katz!

This is a gorgeous Rhone.  It is bold, dark, rich, and chewy.  Beautiful deep red color in the glass. The wine really opened up with the decanting. Full aromas of dark berries, woody herbs, and dried fruit. Very rich, almost intoxicating in the nose. In the mouth there is an explosion of ripe flavors — dark berry and cherry, dried cranberry, fine leather, and plenty of earthiness. This had a mouthful to chew on. Very soft tannins in the finish, though it lingered. The wine is in its prime and will drink well for another year or two.
